Big Bar is a smaller community but still hosts its own elementary school. There are a number of historic mountain ranches in the area including the Upper and Lower Waldorff ranches, of which the Upper Ranch is now within the Trinity Alps Wilderness boundary.
Big Bar is also the “back way” into the community of Hyampom using Corral Bottom Road.
There is a Post Office and General Store in the small town of Big Bar, as well as camping at Trinity Adventure Park. The Tap Cafe is the local restaurant. You may want to call ahead for seasonal hours (530-623-3964). There is a US Forest Service Campground on the South/West side of the river across the bridge on Corral Bottom Rd., as well as various other local USFS campgrounds up and down the Trinity River corridor. There are local AirBnb rentals as well as the Strawhouse Resort which also offers a restaurant and accommodations a few miles up river in Big Flat.
Big Bar is a great location for many recreational opportunities along this stretch of the Trinity River.
